Why do people think nothing of…?

…dropping 0 or more on a new crib (or over a grand for a nursery furniture set) for their baby but freak out if someone spends a few hundred or more to invest in a good stroller. Now, I’m not talking about the 00 and up ones, but something in the 3-5 hundred dollar range. The crib is where the baby will sleep only. A good mattress is the most important thing anyway. Unless it’s a convertable one that can turn into a toddler bed, it’s only going to be used for a couple years (my daughter has never even slept in her’s overnight because I decided to co-sleep) then they are usually put up for sale. The classifieds around here (CT) are full of brand new cribs that were used for only a short while, some neer even slept in. A good stroller is so worth the money. I get crap all the time because I spent a few months researching strollers to find exactly the right one (which I spent about 0 on. I don’t think that is at all unreasonable for the perfect stroller. It’s something I use almost every day and it’s the best purchase I ever made, however I consistently get flack from my family about it and other parent’s who are friends. Just the other day I was in the mall doing a little shopping with my daughter in her stroller and this woman in line behind me had her son in a stroller too. I don’t even know what brand it was but it was just your basic, decent 4 wheeled stroller – nothing wrong with that. Well, this stranger actually had the gall to look at me, then eyeball my stroller and look at me like I was flaunting something and she said "oooh… aren’t we fancy…" Just like that. I couldn’t believe it.
So my question is, "what the heck is the big deal?" Why is it perfectly acceptable to spend 0 or more on a new crib or nursery furniture but people act like you are crazy if you spend over 0 on a practical necessity like a stroller?
Ashley A – Like I said in my question, I use my stroller almost every day!

We spent 6 months looking for a perfect double stroller! There were cheap ones, but we had bought a cheap single one for our first daughter. It broke on it’s second use! We were still able to use it, but we got what we paid for in that aspect. The axle was thin, it bent up, the wheels got messed from the axle bending.
So we bought a double for $300 and have used it numerous times and it’s still in great shape. It has big wheels and a thick axle that is not going to bend!
Lol, we only spent $100 on the crib itself and spent $75 on the crib mattress. The crib got broke, but that’s because my daughter decided to climb on the outside of it and just hang there jumping up and down (she was two and she was not in the crib, just standing on the floor playing). So currently our 71/2 months is sleeping in the pack and play and we decided not to buy a crib and just wait and get her a twin bed, as the pack and play is what she is used to and she is doing fine.
But to answer your question, it probably is because a baby will generally spend more time in a crib than a stroller.
How often do you really think you are going to use the stroller? I bought an expensive stroller and hardly ever use it. I think that’s why people freak out. just a guess though!
I guess it depends on your needs I personally rarely ever use a stroller I use the buggy or carry him so I would not invest a lot in an item I rarely use I did pay 75.00 for mine but only used it maybe three times in seven months however my son has slept in his crib every night since he was 2 months and it will convert into a full sized bed as he gets older. But it is really just how much you use something I think to what you want to invest in it I could care less how much anyone spends on their stuff.I also have a little 20.00 dollar stroller that was a gift and actually use it more because it is small and easier to take along in the car without taking up the whole trunk
You don’t use your crib so, of course, spending $300+ on a crib seems silly to you.
I rarely use his stroller so spending $300+ on one seems silly to me.
Basically, a person’s idea on this will differ depending on how much/little they use the item.
