Should I crate train my dog or use baby gates?

Earlier I asked a question about how to keep my dog off the furniture, and I’m thinking it’s time to set some boundaries.
I would love opinions about whether I should block her from the furniture using baby gates or just crate train her. Tips and advice too please, thanks ![]()

crate training is a good practice but not as a disciplinary action. my rottweiler loves her crate and alot of times she would rather sleep in the crate than on the bed with me and my dobie. dogs need their own place to feel safe and a crate resembles a cave. dogs and wolves arent that far away in the family tree and wolves have been using caves for a little while now. but like someone else said, you cant stop them from jumping up on the furniture using a gate. its just alot of persistance and training. when they jump on the couch, in a low and neatral voice tell the dog "off" and when they do, reward them with a treat. after awhile they will figure it out, dogs arnt stupid as long as your persistant. you can teach any dog to do just about anything.
Here is a great article I used to Help Crate Train my puppy. I hope it Helps!!

I recommend using both. Use a crate when you can not supervise your pup. Use baby gates to keep your pup on a tile floor when you are able to supervise. Continue these until your pup is fully housebroken.
crates make your dog feel that it has been bad and feel unloved when you leave they are also expensive we use baby gates, esy and cheaper way, crates are good to disiplin your dog but if your going to be gone you can make the dog feel unloved and it might not be a good dog around other people. i see my friend they have a crate and the dog always looks like it feels left out and feels like crap baby gates are a great way gives them room to move around get food and water
Crate training is an excellent training tool for times when you are not around to watch her. But except for containing her when you aren’t around, it won’t teach her to stay off furniture. Neither will baby gates unless you want to keep them up for life. You have to train the dog to understand boundaries and barriers don’t effectively do that for the long term.
