How far along before setting up the baby's room?

I’m 17 weeks, 18 weeks Saturday, and I need to know when to set the baby’s room up. We are going soon to get the crib and other big furniture, but when should I start painting? I have colors picked out that are neutral, so I don’t need to know the gender before I can paint, but when is a good time to do all this? The baby’s room is a storage right now, and I have been sorting it for a couple days. I didn’t want anyone to think I didn’t know what I’m doing since this is my first baby, but I really don’t know! I am already getting good sized belly and it’s getting harder for me to bend over and stand for a long time (I have heart issues). When did you start and what do you this is "too early" to get ready for baby?

I would second the idea of someone else who mentioned getting this done in the 2nd trimester.
I waited until I was 31 weeks. I had bought everything for the room, the clothes, and everything else that would be needed for us and the whole time I was moving around I kept thinking, "OMG, I should have done this sooner. OMG, I can barely move. OMG, my back is killing me."
I wanted to wait as long as possible in case anything happened with the baby and I really regretted it.
its never too early, its a good thing to do it now while you have some energy! Then you can just enjoy it before the baby comes!
its not too early. do it before third trimester, than you wont feel like it or anything else.
Im 26 weeks, and I still havent even bought 1 thing yet..dont know why..just havent..its a big step..
It is never to early.
I am as far along as you and I already bought the crib last weekend. I also set it up already to make sure there weren’t any gouges in the wood. My husband and I want everything done by the time I am 7 months. Since it is cold here in WI right now, he will probably start painting late April or early May.
Who cares what everyone else thinks! It is your baby and you want to be prepared!
do it whenever you want! it is your baby that you are excited for. I did my sons room as soon as I found out what he was. this was about 20 weeks. plus if you do it now while you have the energy then you don’t have to worry about it when you are tired and sore from just being pregnant. have fun. if you are going to paint call your doctor first. a lot of doctors don’t want pregnant women to be around the fumes of paint. there are paints you can use that have no odor but they are so spendy.
Never too early, especially if you have health problems which arelikely to affect you as your preg progresses. And you’re decorating in neutrals so you don’t need to wait to find out the sex.
Go ahead and get started whilst you have the energy and the inclination. I’m 34 weeks now and left a lot of stuff to sort once I started my maternity leave – which was 3 weeks ago. and you know what – I can’t be bothered to do most of it! I’m too tired, too heavy and my belly is too big to bend over!
I set up her room as soon as I found out that she was a she! I got too nervous to wait til the end and i wanted the room perfect! hope you have fun setting it up and congrats on the new arrival.
That is great that you are so excited! I started getting things as soon as I found out I was pregnant and everyone kept telling me that it was a bad idea because "what if something happens" but this makes no sense to me because anything could happen at anytime. You can’t live your life thinking about things like that. It is better to do it now while you have the energy too. I had everything for the baby months ago but it was all just laying around, and now I am 36 weeks and I don’t even feel like sweeping the floor. Good luck and have fun!
well i am with you i am 18 weeks tomorrow. i wanna start everything now. and also my baby room is storage as soon as we get that sorted out we are gonna paint. and as soon as i get the crib i know it will be going up. i say just do it as you feel like. i mean it can never be to early right? plus then it gives you time to slowly work to get everything put together and then when you your baby shower comes you have the time after that to do stuff with all the gifts.
We just bought a house this past week, and we received a lot of hand-me-down things since we are tight on budget since the move. So we are basically setting everything up now while we are setting up the whole house. I am tired now from moving and setting up, I can’t imagine waiting and doing this any later! The room was recently painted for a newborn so we didn’t need to do any of that. Best of luck and bask in the joys of preping your babies room, its not every day you get to look at the room your soon to be baby will be living in!
