I decided to replace my son’s race car bed with a big boy bed either bunk bed or cute twin bed before doing the nursery so he doesn’t get jealous, I am not sure what is the best store to look at though? ok so im 13. don’t have a boyfriend. never have. last night i had the following dream:
ok so i was sitting on the steps outside my house and all of a sudden i felt really dizzy and almost fainted. my mom came outside and said "oh no the baby must be coming!" so we went upstairs to this room with a bathtub, a bed, and a refrigerator. i kept sitting there waiting for the contractions to start. so then there was a glass of wine sitting on the table, and i remembered something about not drinking when ur pregnant, but i ignored that. so i drank the glass, then i freaked out because it might hurt my baby. so then i decided to pick out furniture and names. so i got this catalog with baby furniture in it. if my baby was a boy then i had a set of furniture picked out, same with if it was a girl. so then i decided on the first name Justin, middle name Riley if it was a boy. for the girl is was first name Melena, middle name Cecilia. so then my friend comes over and says "they’re attacking! we have to run or you and your baby will get killed! well, you’re going to die anyways but we don’t want your baby to!" so we started running down this village path and these things are shooting arrows at us. somehow, they kept missing me. so then one was shot at my neck. i expected to die, but instead i just got really dizzy, fainted, and then got up and went to the hospital. when i got there, i started talking to my mom. i said "mom, i don’t want to die!" and then she told me that i wasnt going to, that was just a myth (cuz apparantly nobody had had a baby in forever, kinda like the movie Children of Men). Then they had me go in a pool and the person i like was in there. he kept saying "i cant believe i got you pregnant" and then all of a sudden a baby appeared and i was holding her. the bump from the baby on my stomach was all gone, and everything was back to normal. then i woke up.

…dropping 0 or more on a new crib (or over a grand for a nursery furniture set) for their baby but freak out if someone spends a few hundred or more to invest in a good stroller. Now, I’m not talking about the 00 and up ones, but something in the 3-5 hundred dollar range. The crib is where the baby will sleep only. A good mattress is the most important thing anyway. Unless it’s a convertable one that can turn into a toddler bed, it’s only going to be used for a couple years (my daughter has never even slept in her’s overnight because I decided to co-sleep) then they are usually put up for sale. The classifieds around here (CT) are full of brand new cribs that were used for only a short while, some neer even slept in. A good stroller is so worth the money. I get crap all the time because I spent a few months researching strollers to find exactly the right one (which I spent about 0 on. I don’t think that is at all unreasonable for the perfect stroller. It’s something I use almost every day and it’s the best purchase I ever made, however I consistently get flack from my family about it and other parent’s who are friends. Just the other day I was in the mall doing a little shopping with my daughter in her stroller and this woman in line behind me had her son in a stroller too. I don’t even know what brand it was but it was just your basic, decent 4 wheeled stroller – nothing wrong with that. Well, this stranger actually had the gall to look at me, then eyeball my stroller and look at me like I was flaunting something and she said "oooh… aren’t we fancy…" Just like that. I couldn’t believe it.

So my question is, "what the heck is the big deal?" Why is it perfectly acceptable to spend 0 or more on a new crib or nursery furniture but people act like you are crazy if you spend over 0 on a practical necessity like a stroller?

I am going to purchase a black bedroom set and am totally stumped on what carpet and wall colors to do. For wall colors I do not want anything dark since I have a baby on the way and want to brighten up the small space we will share together that is our bedroom. As far as carpet, I do not want such a light color since I do not want to be dealing with the stains that are sure to happen although too dark might make the room appear smaller. As far as bedding, it will be black and white paisley print. If any of you have any suggestions iId appreciate it since I need to purchase the items within a month. I’ve bought a few things here and there, but not tons of stuff. But I find out in about 2 weeks what we are having… Today we cleaned out the room (removed everything) and washed walls and vacuumed. And we were considering buying all the furniture… within the next week. Then once we find out what we are having my hubby will paint the room, and we will pick the bedding set "theme". So it won’t be "completely" done anytime soon, but it will at least have all the furniture in it… and the room will be painted…

Actually it’s not my husbands brother, my husband is an only child.

i just told my mother that she is going to be a grandmother for the first time.
she gave me a four piece baby cutlery gift. she said she’d like it if baby used this cutlery as everyday pieces as children are only young once. the cutlery is adorable.

I turned 10 weeks yesterday, but my husband and I don’t have a lot of money saved so I am trying to plan the major purchases (crib, mattress, changing table, 4-in-1 stroller sets, etc.). As far as baby furniture, I would see no problem purchasing these things from a resale shop or out of the paper as long as they were in good condition. However, this is my first child and I just don’t think I’d want to buy used baby clothes or bottles. I don’t even think I want a used high chair or swing. I know babies don’t carry lots of germs, but it just seems those things need to be new. I’m not knocking anybody who does buy used items.

I mean the furniture should match. I’m talking about people who want the bedroom theme to match the gear (swing, stroller, walker, etc.) It’s not like the baby cares. I’m a mom to an almost one year old and the past year has been less than easy. My husband’s job went under about 7 months ago, as with many people’s and our wages were cut in half. Most of our bills went unpaid for quite awhile. His job finally went back up and he was given a promotion and a raise. We will be financially secure in about a week. My baby has not missed out on much, but I still feel like a "par mother." Just because I wasn’t able to get her everything I wanted her to have. Like really expensive clothes and all the toys available and complete matching baby furniture sets. She had what she needed though. A large supply of toys. Cute clothes- never did I buy anything used. And above all attention from me. Her father was in her life for less than half of it because of his job. We are married though and about to move with him so she can see him more. I got pretty messed up hormonally because I got on birth control so for the past 5 or 6 months, I really have not been as good to her as I could’ve been. I don’t know what I need to do to fix that. Maybe antidepressants or different birth control. I just don’t feel like she gets as good as I want her to have, but for right now it’s the best she can get. Our house is really nice.but not as nice as i’d like. things just arent how i want them to be but it will be much better soon. So what can i do? no negativity please. i just need some support.

kay let me start by saying,
back in October of last year, i was 3 months pregnant, and my hubby and myself, living in a small apt. next to my mom-in-law (ugh), i saw a baby furniture set in target for 0 on sale, i fell in love with it, so my mom-in-law said, she could use her target card for it while it’s on sale, and we’ll pay her back when we get paid. i agreed (when all hell broke loose).
we made arrangements to pay her until the 0 was paid off.. She had us paying this damn thing off for a YEAR!!!!!
We gave her every paycheck, 0 a month! for a year!! that’s 00!!!! GONE!!! on this bill!!! we kept track, telling her each week, "it’s paid off!", she cried, saying "they think i’m stealing their money!! they can’t even pay their bill!!"
so to shut her up, my hubby kept giving her money. then this past October, we said enough, it’s been a year, it’s paid in full and wayyyyy over! We asked to see the bill, she wouldn’t show it, but said we don’t have to pay anymore (you think).
anytime you bring it up, she cries, saying it’s still not paid off.

she acts like a big child! my hubby and i just moved into our duplex and my mom-in-law complained that we don’t have a couch, or a dresser.
we told her, that we want to progress and build up that not everything happens at once. we both work and will eventually get that couch and all but later on when we’re settled with more money saved, and it’ll be good.

she cried and complained saying that she wasnt having us living without this stuff, so she shows up at our house with her brother and she bought us a couch, loveseat, dresser, and some new pillows.

first we said we couldn’t except them, she cried, saying she was trying to help, "my kids don’t love me…waaaa, they dont want to take a gift from his own mommy, i took care of him for 23 years and he stabs me in the back! waaaaahh"
(yeah its annoying). so we excepted, and NOW a week later, she’s making payment plans for US to pay her back!!???
we said, ‘we didn’t even want these things, we don’t have money!"
she replies with, ‘my kids are so selfish, they just take from me and don’t pay me back! i’m there for my kids and they can’t help me!"

she cried, whines, throws temper fits, you name it, like a 4 year old.
what do we do? we can’t go taking her to court because no matter what we’re the ones looked down upon since he’s her son.

now my hubby’s older, spoiled brother just got his new place with his girlfriend and she’s just giving them things without payment, nothing, and they were living with her, not paying her any rent or anything!

what can we do? we can’t keep paying her off all the time for nothing! can’t go to the cops, can’t do anything, we have a baby we’re just getting by, the last bit of our money we put into the baby’s savings fund. =(

Does anyone know if there is a charity that picks up cribs, car seats, crib sets (blankets, bumper pads, mobiles, lamp, etc.), and clothes? I just put away our Xmas decorations in the basement and just stood looking at a crowded end of it….filled with our son’s baby items.

We are NOT having any more children right now…maybe ever…so I’d like the items to go to a good home where someone needs it.

My mother-in-law wants to buy the crib for our baby. She asked me to pick out ones that I want, but all that I have picked out she doesn’t like and doesn’t want to get. What I really wanted was a 3 piece nursery set for around 0 that has everything that we need for the nursery (crib, changer, AND dresser). My husband and I are on a tight budget and can’t afford to get any extras ourselves. I figured it wasn’t asking her to pay much either.

She said she didn’t want to do that and wanted me to pick out a nicer crib, so I did. She didn’t like it either.

She wants to buy a crib that’s dark wood. I want white because it will look so pretty with the bedding I already purchased and my rooms are trimmed in white (white baseboards, white doors, white windows, etc). I just think white would look so pretty and that dark wood would clash with the pink walls we are planning on having and the bedding.

No matter what I suggest, she won’t buy! It’s starting to frustrate me. At the same time I feel bad for not wanting the dark wood cause she is buying, but in the same regard, if my husband and I were the ones buying, we would go for the 0 set and not have to worry about buying a dresser and changer. Ugh.

How would you feel and have you been in a similar situation?

I have to paint the room we have to buy everything. Mommy to be is already 7 months so I guess we waited a little late since we have nothing bought. Not even a crib. So we need a list of all of babies needs,suggestions of themes and cribs and car seats and strollers….everything. Mommy knows if it’s a boy or girl but wants the room neutral and won’t tell me the gender anyway.

I bought a set of used baby furniture. Its a bit scratched up, and I would like to paint it a darker color. Is it necessary to use sanding and / or chemicals to remove the old finish before I repaint it? Or can I just paint it as-is?

Hi. my husband and I am trying fertility treatments in hopes of getting pregnant, if we do not get pregnant on our own we are planning to adopt. With that being said, I have started looking into baby furniture prices. The set I want is 00 and only includes a crib and dresser. There is no way we can afford this. I have friend who has the set and has offered it to us for 0. It is in great condition. Now for my question….Who you buy the crib before you were pregnant? Should I be superstious about it at all?

I fogot to mention that the crib turns into a full size bed. We have a spare room that we are using as the guest room. The head board and footboard will be used along with the dresser in the guest room. So it’s not going to look like a babies room.

I went to Babies R Us yesterday to shop for baby girl who will be coming in august. I found this great crib for 499 which I was fine with paying. Its a convertable crib, beautiful dark cherry stained. What blew my mind was the other pieces of furniture they sell in that cribs "set". Im going to need a dresser to put all her clothes in but the one invloved in this set was 0 dollars. It was nothing more than a 4 drawer dresser made of the same wood as the crib and stained the same, but it was 100 dollars more than the crib. My problem is that im having trouble finding dressers at other furniture stores that match this dark cherry color. Im in love with the crib but 600 bucks for a dresser just seems crazy. Any suggestions?

My mother-in-law wants to buy the crib for our baby. I found a 3 piece nursery set for a little over 0 that has a crib, changer, and dresser all together. I thought it would be a good deal and my sister got a similar set from the same company and it is very well-made and looks really pretty.

My mother-in-law doesn’t want to get the set because she thinks I only want it cause of financial reasons since it comes with everything we need for the nursery. She also thinks it isn’t going to last and doesn’t think it’s very "pretty", but it’s a classic looking crib and is pretty to me. Who can say any crib is going to last, even if you pay more for it?

I *could* be selfish and pick out the most expensive crib I see, but I’m not that kind of person and I don’t want her to feel obligated to pay a lot for something. If it was my husband and I buying it without help, we would be getting the 3 piece set cause we are on a budget.

We bought our baby’s furniture set a month or so ago. And I’m just so anxious to put it together! I want to see it. and to see the baby’s room look like a baby’s room! For my first pregnancy (when i was 21) She wouldn’t even allow me to have a baby shower because there was a chance something was wrong with my baby… She was tiny.

I go to all my prenatal visits and i take my vitamins. My baby is strong healthy boy. And i just want to set up his room before he comes home. I also want his items to air out. I ordered all new wood furniture so i know there is gonna be a lingering varnish scent.

I’m having a c-section so i will be in the hospital for about 4 – 5 days so i guess she figures that will be enough time for my hubby, his father and my father to put everything together.

Which is more typical to wait till after the baby is born or before?

She also wanted to do this with our wedding shower gifts but had to "allow" us to have them because we moved into the apartment and had almost nothing.

I know when i’m going to set the baby’s room up, i want to see see whateveryone else thinks.

I am 12 weeks along and we are thinking about going to look at baby furniture this weekend. We have painted the room yellow because we don’t know the sex of the baby yet. I know we are going to have to go with light wood or white furniture because of the color of the walls. My question is if you think it would look okay if we did white furniture for a boy? The crib set we bought is neutral so it would match, just trying to figure out if people do a white crib for a boy?

I have two cats, about 8 months old and I’m having a baby in a few weeks. Right now, I live in a one bedroom apartment and I have to keep all my baby furniture and stuff in the dining room, so I can’t shut them out. My dad advised me to go ahead and set everything up so they could get used to it being there, and to start now teaching them to stay away.

I’ve tried everything, they are the weirdest cats EVER. They *like* aluminum foil and tape, they chew on it and have put holes in my pack-n-play trying to tear it off. I can’t find any tents for it, and I’m a little nervous about using chemicals on my baby stuff unless I know it’s reasonably safe.
I could get a super soaker for ninja and he’d just sit there and look offended while he was getting wetter. I’ll try the citrus oil though. =)
I’m not getting rid of the cats. Period. I wouldn’t get rid of my baby because it had some inconvenient habits, so I’m not getting rid of the cats either.

The website www.bedroomfurniture.com has a large assortment of bedroom furniture. I already bought some furniture for my bedroom: a white shutter queen size bed and white shutter dresser. But I think the dresser might not be enough space for my clothes so I’m thinking about getting an armoire or chest. The problem is that I can’t find one that matches the set I already purchased, except the baby furniture by StorkCraft. Some of the furniture would fit perfectly with my set, but I think it would seem weird buying baby furniture. What do you guys think?

Hello there all!!!

I just wanted to ask your opinion on something. I think the baby bedding I choose is gorgeous and would suit either a boy or a girl! I just wanted to see what you guys thought if it was okay too!

Until we buy our house next year (I’m due in November) Bub will be in the bedroom with us as our other room in the house is set up as a study for our business and can’t be otherwise.

Looking forward to creating the baby’s room in our new home though when the time comes.

So, if you think about either a boy or a girl in that bedding – does it work? I really hope it does! I don’t think the colours are strong enough to just be for a boy. So I hope!

By the way, I bought an extra blanket and loose and fitted sheets in the set also (one blanket on bed – the other hanging on cot) in case the bed ever needs to be changed due to wetting etc.

And I’m aware all these blankets won’t be used straight away to cover a newborn. Still figuring out what to use then!

Thanks guys for your opinions!!! I can understand why some might see it suiting a boy more – but I hoped that a girl would suit it too! I’m glad nobody thinks that it would NEVER suit a girl. I was hoping it would be okay!

I was thinking of doing exactly what some of you have suggested here actually. When I find out if it’s a boy or girl, I will add some pink or blue accordingly! I’ll figure something out!!! Every little thing will help – toys etc!

Oh, and we weren’t intending to have all that furniture ready yet! It came out of the blue – saw a bargin and had to snap it up as we got the full lot of furniture for 2 Australian dollars! So that is why I bought the bedding….now clothes and the rest to add!

Is there anything like wet-wipes I could use? I’d love to just set a container in the nursery and just pull out a wetwipe when I need to clean off the plastic part of bassinet, or crib, a plastic toy, etc…

I don’t have a decorative bone in my body. I have no imagination at all lol. So for my baby nursery I want to get some idea’s from going to store or website that have I guess a display of sample nursery setups? I am not good at wording this but you know how you go to furniture stores and they have a model room setup and painted and decorated. I need some place like that for baby furniture so I can decorate a room according to what they have if I like a certain set of furniture? ANy help would be appreciated

I just found and bought a light oak furniture set for the babies room. I was planning on dark cherry, and I had an entire room picked out (brown and aqua). When the price of the light oak set was too good to turn down, I bought that instead. Now my whole room has to change, and I’m panicking. I always get dark furniture, now I have really light furniture with a yellow tone (not my strong suit). What wall colors would make me love this nursery again? Help!

o.k. well i am 31 weeks pregnant and have all of my baby furniture set up! the baby’s room is white right now and i have cherry wood furniture. what colour should i paint the walls i want something girly but NOT pink! please help!

I wanted to throw a babyshower for my sister-in-law until i was told what day to do it on and asked to buy a crib for almost 400.00. now i’m really disgusted and dont want to do it anymore. her gift registry includes all baby furniture and a comforter set for the crib for 200.00. i’m so hurt at the selfishness and my friends are disgusted and told me to drop out and let her mom plan it alone. when i told my sister-in-law that she isn’t suppose to be part of the planning and that i’m not buying the crib, i haven’t heard from her in 2 weeks. should i take my friends advice and drop out of it all?
i’m sorry i forgot to mention this also, she told me that she was goimg expensive with this child but cheaper with the next. that’s fine if she is the one paying, but she’s expecting it all from her guests. the father makes a decent living. they are both making everyone around them sick. they know i have 2 children to get ready for school and wanted the baby shower by the end of august. she isn’t due until the end of october, the beginning of november! she’s going expensive off everyone else wallet. she is also throwing herself another babyshower for her friends to attend. we couldn’t have a babyshower for her friends too. and we only met the father when she found out she was pregnant. his family isn’t doing anything to help us with the shower and is demanding to know the date asap!!
